Company Profile:
A subsidiary of Volkswagen, the Audi Group, comprising the two brands Audi and Lamborghini, is one of the world’s leading carmakers in the premium and supercar segment. The core of the Company is the Audi brand. It offers its products under both the Audi and Lamborghini brands, as well as sells ...
The fully automatic electro-hydraulic soft-top features a heated glass window and thermal insulation suitable for winter use. The thick roof fabric and joining technique between the hood and outer fabric provide superior interior acoustics and exterior sound damping. The top also integrates LED map lights for rear passengers.

An active roll-over protection system behind the rear head restraints that helps provide additional protection for the occupants if the vehicle rolls over. A highly sensitive system of sensors detects the vehicle movements and triggers two protective bars which extend within milliseconds. Together with the extremely rigid windscreen frame, these help to maintain survival space for the occupants and ensure open-top driving pleasure.

Active safety refers to everything designed to help prevent an accident from happening. It can include features such as power-assisted steering systems that give the driver accurate feedback from the road; good suspension characteristics, well-tuned suspension systems, optimum traction and good overall handling characteristics; effective brakes and engines with plenty of power reserve. Seats that reduce fatigue, clear visibility, good climate control, understandable and uncomplicated instruments and controls help the driver to remain alert. Electronic vehicle systems such as the anti-lock brake system (ABS), the traction control (ASR), the electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), the electronic differential lock (EDL), the electronic stabilization program (ESP), the roof rack detection system, Audi side assist, and even the voice control system are also active safety features. Together with the car’s passive safety features, active safety systems help to provide optimum protection for all of the car’s occupants.

Adaptive cruise control builds on the functionalities of the cruise control system and within certain system limits, maintains the driver-selected comfort spacing from the vehicle in front automatically. The system uses a special radar sensor to measure the distance to the vehicle ahead. If the distance is too small, the system reduces speed moderately by easing the throttle or automatically applying the brakes, up to approximately 25% of maximum vehicle deceleration. Once the road ahead is clear again, adaptive cruise control accelerates the car up to the previously set speed. If the braking process activated by the adaptive cruise control does not decelerate the vehicle sufficiently, an acoustic signal is triggered immediately to warn the driver to intervene manually. Adaptive cruise control does not react to stationary objects or approaching vehicles. It should not be used on winding roads or in adverse weather conditions such as fog, ice or heavy rain.

Aerodynamic drag is the resistance (retarding effect) applied to a body as it passes through the air. It is made up of two components, caused by pressure and by friction. Resistance caused by pressure occurs because there is a difference in air pressure between the front and rear surfaces of the body. This has to be overcome to keep the body moving through the air, and is particularly significant in the case of relatively flat-surfaced, bulky objects such as motor vehicles. If the body moving through the air is slim and streamlined, however, like a modern aircraft, resistance due to friction represents a higher proportion of total aerodynamic drag. It is caused by the airflow rubbing against the surfaces as it passes over them. Aerodynamic drag increases at the same rate as the square of the air speed. In other words if the speed doubles, the drag increases fourfold; if it quadruples, it increases sixteen-fold. See also: cd value.

Airbags can help reduce the risk of severe head and chest (thorax) injuries in certain collisions. When an impact exceeds the force needed to trigger the airbags, the airbag control unit ignites the gas generator which then inflates the airbags in the steering wheel and the instrument panel. This chain of events occurs within 30-40 milliseconds. When inflated, airbags absorb energy from the forward movement of the head and upper body and distribute the resulting loads over a much greater area. After only 120 milliseconds, the gas escapes and the airbag collapses. Airbags are part of a finely tuned safety system that includes safety belt pretensioners. Therefore, optimum protection can only be achieved if all occupants are wearing their safety belts properly. In addition to front airbags, side airbags to help protect chest and head are also available (see Sideguard). The head and thorax side airbags installed in the Audi TT for the driver and passenger provide additional protection from the head to the area of the ribs in certain side impacts. Note: Airbags are supplemental restraints only and will not deploy under all accident circumstances. Always use safety belts and seat children only in the rear, using restraint systems appropriate for their size and age.

Part of dual-zone climate control, this sensor measures pollution in the outside air. If predetermined limits are exceeded – for example, when driving through a tunnel – the climate control system switches to the recirculated-air mode and thus prevents polluted air from degrading air quality inside the car.

Alcantara is a revolutionary suede-like fabric that is soft to the touch, colorful, comfortable, durable, easy to maintain, versatile, and unique. It is used as an optional interior surface for seating inserts, steering wheels, and headliners and hat shelf liners.

The Audi A8 is the first North American car with an aluminum body built according to the Audi space frame principle. ASF is a high-strength aluminum frame structure into which the panels are integrated so that they also perform a load-bearing function. In conjunction with high-strength aluminum sheet, the aluminum body is characterized by exceptional stiffness and above-average crash protection, yet at the same time by substantially lower weight. Advantages for the driver: greater safety, increased performance, improved handling, lower fuel consumption, and ease of repair.
