Industry:Earth science
That part of scintillation affecting the brightness of the image.
Industry:Earth science
(1) The gradual raising of the bed of a river or body of water by the accumulation of solid matter such as silt, soil, or gravel. (2) That portion of the bed of a river or body of water which has been raised by the gradual accumulation of solid matter. When accumulated matter has reached the point where it extends above the surface of the water and is therefore no longer part of the bed, it is still sometimes referred to as batture. However, the terms alluvion (for the process) and alluvium (for the land) are more specific and appear to be preferred.

A geodetic datum in use before 1965 and based on a rotational ellipsoid with semi major axis 6 378 165 meters, flattening 1/298. 3. The origin was at CENTRAL (GRUNDY) with coordinates<br>
Industry:Earth science
That meridian which is 180° of longitude from a given meridian. A meridian and its antimeridian constitute a complete great circle.
Industry:Earth science
Adjustment of the lengths of sides and of angles between sides in a geodetic network by formulating each observation equation as an equality between the observed value and the adjusted value plus the error (residual), and formulating each condition equation as an exact relationship between the adjusted quantities. The observation equations are usually not written down explicitly but are combined immediately with the condition equations.
Industry:Earth science
The collection of data describing the physical characteristics of a beach (a region bounded by a shoreline, a coastline, and two natural or arbitrarily assigned flanks).
Industry:Earth science
A flat surface, in an aerial camera, located parallel to but out of the focal plane by an amount equal to the thickness of the photographic film. The film is held against the locating back by a vacuum or air pressure so that the emulsion lies on the focal plane at the instant of exposure. Locating backs are usually of metal. They are perforated or slotted to allow a differential pressure to be built up or air to be removed to form a vacuum.
Industry:Earth science
Detect or receive a signal from an object. The term is used in this sense in the photography of missiles and in radar.
