In C. W. Thornthwaite's 1948 climatic classification, any type of climate in which the seasonal water surplus counteracts seasonal water deficiency; thus it has a moisture index greater than zero. Included are the moist subhumid, humid, and perhumid climates. In contrast are the dry climates. The moist climates are further subdivided according to values of aridity index into the following: little or no moisture deficiency; moderate summer water deficiency; moderate winter water deficiency; large summer water deficiency; and large winter water deficiency. Compare rainy climate.
Industry:Weather
Atmospheric convection in which the phase changes of water play an appreciable role. All cumuliform clouds are manifestations of moist convection. The enthalpy exchange between condensing water vapor or freezing liquid water and air (see latent heat) is a major contributor to the positive buoyancy of updrafts, while the reverse exchange between air and evaporating water or melting ice contributes strongly to the negative buoyancy of downdrafts.

In oceanography, densely packed, irregularly oval- shaped high and low pressure centers roughly 400 km (240 miles) in diameter in which current intensities are typically tenfold greater than the local means.
Industry:Weather
A device for effecting the process of modulation. The amplitude, frequency, or phase of a carrier signal is varied with time by an applied information signal.

(Latin for affirmative mode. ) An inference rule that states that if ''A'' is true, and ''A'' implies ''B'', then ''B'' is also true.
Industry:Weather
(Latin for denial mode. ) An inference rule that states that if ''B'' is false and ''A'' implies ''B'', then ''A'' is also false. This is considered an “unsafe” approach compared to modus ponens because proving a negative is always weaker than proving a positive.
Industry:Weather
On a thermodynamic diagram, an isopleth of equivalent potential temperature or pseudoequivalent potential temperature. Moist adiabats on most diagrams are drawn for the pseudoadiabatic process, in which liquid water is removed as soon as it is condensed.
Industry:Weather
1. In atmospheric thermodynamics, air that is a mixture of dry air and any amount of water vapor. Compare dry air, saturation. 2. Generally, air with a high relative humidity.

In the Beaufort wind scale, a wind with a speed from 11 to 16 knots (13 to 18 mph) or Beaufort Number 4 (Force 4).

In the Beaufort wind scale, a wind with a speed from 28 to 33 knots (32 to 38 mph) or Beaufort Number 7 (Force 7).
