A reflecting telescope which reflects incoming radiation from the paraboloidal primary mirror to a small, hyperboloidal secondary mirror and thence back through a hole in the primary mirror to the detecting device or observer. Cassegrainian telescopes have been made for use at radio wavelengths through the spectrum to the far ultraviolet. The combination of paraboloidal and hyperboloidal mirrors makes the telescope much shorter than a telescope of the same focal length and with a flat secondary mirror.
