Company Profile:
Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) develops and markets aviation supplies, software, and books for pilots, flight instructors, flight engineers, airline professionals, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, aviation technicians and enthusiasts. Established in 1947, ASA also provides ...
A geographic location determined by reference to a navigational aid which provides distance and azimuth information. The direction of a DME fix is specified in degrees magnetic from the facility, and the distance from the facility is given in nautical miles.

fix
A geographical position determined by visual references to the surface, by reference to one or more radio navaids, by celestial plotting, or by other navigational methods.
Industry:Aviation
A glass electron tube containing a gas under a low pressure. A high voltage across two electrodes in the tube ionizes the gas, and when electrons flow through the ionized gas, it glows. The type of gas determines the ionization voltage and the color of the glow. Since the ionization voltage remains constant regardless of the amount of current, glow-discharge tubes can be used to produce a reference voltage in a voltage regulator circuit.
Industry:Aviation
A governmental board whose responsibility is the regulation of all interstate electrical communications and all foreign electrical communications that originate in the United States. The FCC is made up of seven commissioners appointed by the President of the United States, under the Communications Act of 1934.
Industry:Aviation
A gradual change in the width or thickness of an object along its length.
Industry:Aviation
A graduated circle painted on a ramp or taxiway of an airport. Compass roses are laid out at a location where local magnetic fields are minimum, and where traffic will not interfere with aircraft using the rose to have their compasses swung (compensated). The graduations of the compass rose are laid out with reference to magnetic north, and they are marked every thirty degrees. To compensate the compass, the aircraft is taxied over the compass rose so it lines up with the directional marks of the rose. The compensating magnets in the compass are adjusted to cause the compass to agree with the direction the aircraft is pointed. A compass rose is also the name of a small circle graduated in 360° increments printed on some navigational charts to show the amount of compass variation at different locations on the chart.
Industry:Aviation
A graphic display of the three components that must be present for a fire. These components are: fuel, oxygen, and heat.
Industry:Aviation
A graphic method of showing the relationship existing between resistance, reactance, and impedance in an AC circuit. An impedance triangle is a right triangle, with the horizontal side representing the circuit resistance and the vertical side representing the combined capacitive and inductive reactance in the circuit. The hypotenuse represents the circuit impedance. The angle formed between the hypotenuse and the horizontal side is the phase angle (.) of the circuit, the number of electrical degrees the current leads or lags the voltage.
Industry:Aviation
A graphic presentation that shows the way the value of one variable changes with variations in other variables. A chart allows a person to visualize the way a change in one action affects other actions.
Industry:Aviation
A graphic way to show the flow of information through a computer program. An oval shape shows the point at which the program starts or stops. A rectangular box is an information box that explains something. A box shaped like a parallelogram is a point where data is put into the program or taken from it. A diamond-shaped box is a decision point at which a logic decision must be made.
