A hand-held saw using a narrow, fine-tooth, replaceable blade, held under tension in a metal frame. Hacksaw blades used for cutting metal and other hard materials are designed to cut only on the forward movement of the blade. The blade should be lifted from the work on its return stroke.

A hand-held tool used for pounding. A hammer has a heavy, hard steel head mounted across the end of its handle. There are a number of types of hammer heads. Claw hammers have claws on one side of the head for removing nails. Ball peen hammers have a ball on one side of the head for forming heads on rivets. Cross peen and straight peen hammers have a wedge on one side of their head for shaping sheet metal.

A handle that has a ratchet built into its head, and used to drive a socket wrench. Back-and-forth movement of the handle causes the socket to rotate in one direction. By reversing the pawl in the ratchet head, the same back-and-forth movement of the handle will rotate the socket in the opposite direction.

A hand-operated hydraulic pump unloading valve. When the valve is open, fluid flows from the pump to the reservoir with little opposition. To actuate a unit, the selector valve is turned to select the desired actuation and the power control valve is manually closed. Pressurized fluid flows to the unit, and when actuation is completed, the power control valve automatically opens.
