A fixed, nozzle-like opening near the leading edge of an airplane wing, ahead of the aileron. A slot acts as a duct to force air down on the upper surface of the wing when the airplane is flying at a high angle of attack. Forcing the air down on the top of the wing allows the airplane to fly at a higher angle of attack before it stalls.
Since the slot is located ahead of the aileron, the aileron remains effective even at very high angles of attack.
