Company Profile:
Founded in 1946, the IEEE Computer Society is a professional organization for computing professionals. Based in Washington, DC, it's the largest of IEEE’s 38 societies organized under the IEEE Technical Activities Board. The IEEE Computer Society is dedicated to advancing the theory, practice, and ...
A "just-in-time" method for analyzing the work to be done. For example, first, plan at the staff-week level for the next month, second, plan at the one month level for the following three quarters (9 months), and finally, plan to the quarter year (3 months) for the remainder of the project. Each month the "planning wave" is rolled forward. . A project plan that provides more detail for the immediate future and less detail for the more distance future.
Industry:Computer; Software
A meeting at which a system, hardware, or software design is presented to project personnel, managers, users, customers, or other interested parties for comment or approval. The purpose of this review is to: (1) Determine that the detail design of the configuration item under review satisfies the design requirements established in the architectural design specifications. (2) Establish the exact interface relationships between the different functional modules.
Industry:Computer; Software
The formal examination of functional characteristics from test data for a hardware/software configuration item, prior to acceptance, to verify that the item has achieved the performance specified in its functional or allocated requirements. (2) An audit of functional characteristics test data for a configuration item, prior to acceptance, to verify that the item has achieved the performance specified in its functional or allocated configuration identification.
Industry:Computer; Software
A semiformal to formal evaluation technique in which software requirements, design, or code are examined in detail by a person or group other than the originator to detect faults, violations of development standards, and other problems. The review members are peers (equals) of the designer or programmer. Traditional error data is collected during inspections to be analyzed later and to assist in future inspections. A peer review is sometimes called a walkthrough or inspection.
Industry:Computer; Software
In an inspection or walkthrough, the inspection team members identify and describe anomalies in the software product. Inspectors should be chosen to represent different viewpoints at the meeting (for example, sponsor, requirements, design, code, safety, test, independent test, project management, quality management, and hardware engineering). Only those viewpoints pertinent to the inspection of the product should be present. Note that the author’s manager cannot attend the review.
Industry:Computer; Software
The identification and documentation of derivation paths (upward) and allocation or flow down paths (downward) of work products in the work product hierarchy. Important kinds of traceability include: to or from external sources to or from system requirements; to or from system requirements to or from lowest level requirements; to or from requirements to or from design; to or from design to or from implementation; to or from implementation to test; and to or from requirements to test.
Industry:Computer; Software
(1) The arrangement of a system or network as defined by the nature, number, and chief characteristics of its functional units. More specifically, the term configuration may refer to a hardware configuration or a software configuration. (2) The requirements, design, and implementation that define a particular version of a system or system component. (3) The functional and/or physical characteristics of hardware/software as set forth in technical documentation and achieved in a product.
Industry:Computer; Software
A form of investment that behaves like an interest only loan. The investor buys the bond for some amount, receives interest-only payments over time, and then receives the initial investment plus the final interest installment at the end of the term. Bonds are a typical means for government units to raise needed capital. Revenue bonds are secured by future revenue generated from the activity being funded, whereas general obligation bonds are secured by the issuing entity’s ability to tax.
Industry:Computer; Software
(1) An initial release or re-release of a computer software configuration item, associated with a complete compilation or recompilation of the computer software configuration item. (2) An initial release or complete re-release of a document, as opposed to a revision resulting from issuing change pages to a previous release. (3) An operational software product that differs from other like products as to capability, environmental requirements, and configuration. Sometimes synonymous with build.
Industry:Computer; Software
A document or set of documents baselined by the acquirer and the supplier that specifies the conditions under which the project will be conducted. A project agreement may include items such as the scope, objectives, assumptions, management interfaces, risks, staffing plan, resource requirements, price, schedule, resource and budget allocations, project deliverables, and acceptance criteria for the project deliverables. Project agreements are very often defined in the contract statement of work.
